On behalf of IFAS I'd like to congratulate Dave on this prestigious honour. Dave has done much work to help and encourage amateur astronomers to make a valuable contribution in the scientific fields of astronomy. Following from his success in the confirmation of Supernova2005ep, he has since played a leading role in developing the Advanced Observing Programme which aims to encourage us all to contribute valuable scientific data to the appropriate scientific authorities. Not only that, he has proven an active member of these boards where he has helped nurture astronomers of all ages and experience and thoroughly deserves this formal recognition of his work.
I'd like to thank John McConnell, Dr. Edward Bowell and all at Lowell Observatory for taking the time and effort to recognise Dave's work and for rewarding Dave in this manner.

Dave, This is great news. I am so totally thrilled for you. A richly deserved honour. Now your job is to go out and image your very own world!
My heartiest congrats to you on this wonderful recognition of your contribution to Minor Planet astrometry and to Irish Astronomy in general.

I was just talking to the man of the moment on the phone. His computer is gone belly up and thats why he hasn't been here today. I just asked that I let you know that all your comments are appreciated and he hopes to be in a position to tell you himself over the weekend.
Regards and Clear Skies,
Dave.
