Sidewalk Astronomy is about bringing astronomy to the people.
Sidewalk Astronomy is not about making money or selling anything
Sidewalk Astronomy is about sharing the night sky with people
just because it is fantastic.

In preparation for IYA2009, IFAS is co-ordinating an outreach event
among participating IFAS clubs for November 7th and 8th. This
coincides around the time of the First Quarter Moon. This will bring
awareness of astronomy to the general public and will be good test
run in advance of IYA2009.

Membership of an astronomy club is not required for attendance at
these events. Everyone is welcome to come along. This includes any
members of non-IFAS clubs - all are welcome. However it is wise to be
covered by public liability insurance if you are coming as a telescope
operator as all IFAS members are.

A list of participating clubs and locations of events will be
published in this thread once details become finalised."

If we have a go now , then by April we should be able to show a united front here in Ireland
as regards public outreach and 100 Hours of Astronomy and other global events in 2009.
All subject to weather conditions of course.

TAS hopes to organise an event on Friday November 7th in Castledermot.
More details to follow.

I think it would be great if we could mobilise as many clubs as possible for this trial run.

Thanks Michael and David

The IAS plan to be in Sandymount at the Martello Tower Car Park
November 7th and 8th between 8pm and 10pm weather permitting.
If not lucky then we may consider December 6th and do a kinda
Christmas first quarter moon.

We (SAC) will be hashing out the details during our upcoming meeting this Wednesday to pick a place and time.
Hopefully the weather plays ball!

TAS is full steam ahead for its event in Castledermot on Friday night. Long range forecast looks somewhat favourable, so lets keep the fingers crossed. More details and a location (map) will be posted here later.
