Deise Astronomy Society's 100 Hours was created by nectarine
DAS had to postpone our Saturn & Moon Watch from last Friday night due to 100% cloud cover & lots of rain (so much for the 'sunny' south east!) but it's rescheduled for this Friday 10th April next to Abbeyside Church in Dungarvan from 9pm. Fingers crossed that the weather plays ball this time....

Our Solar System Walk went ahead as planned on Sat morning - we had in the region of 50 people who came along and had a great time walking the whole length of the beach with the sun & planets to scale and the correct distances between them (one yard = 3,300,000 miles). We had children from about 5 years upwards and they all really enjoyed it (especially boys aged 8+ who all volunteered to be my 'planet carriers'). Photo's to follow tomorrow as I forgot to bring camera to work.

Then on Sat afternoon Steve Roche gave a talk in Dungarvan library - introduction to Astronomy and Astrophotography, which went really well - we had just under 20 people attend. Steve talked about the photo's he's taken (which were on display in the libray), the equipment he uses and getting started in astrophotography. Again, I'll post some photo's tomorrow.

After the talk we had to take down our exhibition, which had been on display in the library all week, (the library was closing but Steve was still answering questions on his talk!) We had excellent feedback with quite a bit of interest from local schools.

It sounds like everyone who took part around the country had great interest from the public, twas a very enjoyable experience for all who took part. I'd just like to say a huge thanks to Deirdre Kelleghan as she is a major force behind 100 Hours in Ireland, her enthusiasm is infectious and I hope she realises how much all her hard work is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Bernie

Great stuff Bernie , it should all make a colorful set of data for 100 Hours evaluation. Thanks to DEISE for all their hard work , it takes a lot of energy to make new things happen.

If this pic works, it's part of our Solar System walk last Saturday but just using this as a test....

get rid of that forward slash in the opening [ img ] tag and use the square brackets [ ] not the curved brackets ( ) and it will appear inline in the post like so....
