Press Release from Birr Castle:

The Far Side of Infinity” a journey across the Universe and time
An illustrated public lecture, by astronomer Tony O’Hanlon

As part of Birr Castle Demesne's ongoing participation in the International Year of Astronomy 2009, we present a lecture in Ireland’s Historic Science Centre on Thursday 23 July, entitled "The Far side of Infinity". Astronomer Tony O'Hanlon guides us on the ultimate journey, from the shores of planet Earth to the distant reaches of our known Universe. Like those travellers during Earth's Golden Age of Exploration, we encounter scenes of exquisite beauty, exotic and mysterious objects, and events of terrifying violence. Using data from 21st century technology of professional astronomers and cosmologists, and the humble equipment of amateurs, this lavishly illustrated lecture provides a stunning vista of the heavens as we travel far into the past and across vast incomprehensible distances. The lecture, starting at 7.00pm and running to 8.30pm, is open to the public and is suitable for young teenagers upwards. No prior knowledge of astronomy or physics is required. Charge is Euro 10.00 per person, payable either on the door or in advance. Pre-booking is advised. Contact Birr Castle Demesne on 05791 20336.

Regards,

Michael.

I hope it goes well, Tony has been working hard in Birr Castle for the past year and a bit. But I think the €10 price tag will deter people for a less than 2 hour lecture. If the Demense staff read this, they might reconsider that price or offer something extra?
