Hi all,

if anyone gets Midlands 103 (103.5FM), I'll be giving an interview after 11am on the Midlands Today show about tomorrow night's Penumbral (partial) Lunar Eclipse, and the Moon's encounter with Jupiter on the night of Thursday August 6th.

The more (not Moore ;) ) we can get IFAS folks on the air, the better :)

Good luck - I'll try and listen in - is there a webstream in case I can;t get it on the FM radio in Dublin?

The interview went very well, lasted about 10 minutes. Talked about tonight's partial penumbral eclipse, the Jupiter conjunction tomorrow night, and the asteroid/comet impact making waves on Jupiter, and reminiscing about the Shoemaker-Levy 9 event in 1994. Next to look forward to? The Perseids next week...

Seanie,

I always look forward to the Perseids but this year will be difficult due to the moon being a significant factor within a couple of hours following the end of astro twilight.

It is unfortunate since predictions are for very good activity this year.

They are favourable alright, if it wasn't for the Moon. As for predicted maximum, it occurs during daylight hours for us (between 17:00 and 20:00hrs Wednesday evening). But still, the Perseids do give a great display. Despite the Moon also putting in a show, I'd say we'll have some astronomers from around the world sending in footage, like every year, to Spaceweather.com and so on.

The bollides shall prevail... me hopes!
