In association with the Centre for Astronomy at NUI Galway we proudly present an evening of lecture by one of the world's leading experts in understanding the origin, history, distribution and role of water as it relates to life in the Universe - "Origins of Water on Earth - Research of the University of Hawaii NASA Astrobiology Institute"

By Dr Jacqueline Keane on Monday 23rd August 2010 , NUI Galway, Dillon Theatre, 8.00pm - 9.15 pm

Our up coming talk is by Dr Jacqueline Keane who works at the home of the some of the World’s most massive and famous telescopes at the summit of Mauna Kea on the Pacific island of Hawaii. After finishing a degree in Physics at NUI Galway she went onto Leiden University where she worked in a laboratory producing ice matrix analogs to compare to observations of interstellar ices bands that were detected by the ESA infrafred Space Observatory (ISO).

Following the completion of her PhD she went to the NASA Ames Research Center to continue work on ices and organics in space using the NASA Spitzer telescope and ground-based observatories. After several years in California she moved to the Institute of Astronomy at the University of Hawaii to work at the NASA Astrobiology center where she continues to work on molecular clouds and is the lead researcher for the archival search of past Main Belt Comet activity and the origin of Earths water.Further details and full abstract at www.galwayastronomyclub.ie
