A new impact on Jupiter was created by eansbro
I just got word from a colleague this am that there has been another impact on Jupiter. The detection was by a Japanese amateur astronomer using video camera/telescope. I have no details at this point in time. We may hear more today. It appears to be only one observer detection.

You can imagine if this was just one observer, the professionals may not have taken it too seriously before the Wesley impact and also the one last year by two independent observers.

The impact was captured by 2 imagers independently who are over 500 miles part,
Maybe Jupiter has been passing through some sort of cometary debris field over the past year or so??

It does have 2 large asteroid fields independent of the Asteroid Belt that sub-orbit it along it's own orbital plane - the Trojans and the Greeks. It's probably not uncommon for Jupiter to swallow one of these now and again - however it is uncommon to actually see it!

As long as they are that far away, I'm happy.

Well, I'm glad Jupiter is doing its job as the vacuum cleaner of the solarsystem.
