IAS/SDAS meeting on September 16th was created by johnflannery
Hi all,

Hope everyone is well. Boy, it's got cold the last couple of days!

A quick reminder about the IAS/SDAS meeting this Thursday, September 16th on the Total Solar Eclipse members saw from French Polynesia. All are welcome to come along on the night and admission is FREE. The venue is Gonzaga College, Ranelagh, Dublin at 8pm.

Daniel Lynch, who saw the eclipse from on board a ship, took some stunning footage of totality and captures the excitement of being there. Daniel will also discuss observations made by other eclipse-chasing groups and describe other sights he saw while on a round-the-world trip.

Aubrey Glazier and Ken Finlay saw the eclipse from the tiny atoll of Anaa. Ken has some marvelous photos of the partial phases along with totality itself. Both he and Aubrey will describe their visit to the island community and the celestial sights of the southern hemisphere.

John O’Neill, recently returned from the US, will talk about his NINTH total solar eclipse – at least I think it’s nine that John has seen with a 100% success record.

many thanks to all the speakers for their contributions last night -- it was fascinating to hear about their respective trips. Daniel Lynch and Thomas Kinsella, who went to Tahiti, also showed the movie taken by a different group who were in South America where totality was at sunset.

Those South American eclipse-chasers had a real shock when their guide suggested they move location to escape possible cloud forming over their site. After a beautiful Diamond Ring they then saw the eclipsed sun set behind a distant mountain! Bummer!
