Global Astronomy Month returns for April 2011 was created by Seanie_Morris
The following is from a circular this morning:

April 2011 will again be a busy month for amateur and professional astronomers, educators and astronomy enthusiasts as Global Astronomy Month (GAM) returns for its second edition. The annual event, organized by Astronomers Without Borders, celebrates the Universe in the spirit of the International Year of Astronomy 2009 cornerstone project "100 Hours of Astronomy."

Astronomy clubs, science centers, schools, educators, and other astronomy enthusiasts worldwide are invited to reserve dates in April 2011 for public outreach, hands-on activities, observing sessions and more while sharing the enthusiasm with others across the globe during Global Astronomy Month. Everyone is invited either to join the global programs or initiate their own activities during April 2011.

Join the celebration in April 2011 as Global Astronomy Month brings together thousands of passionate individuals and hundreds of organizations worldwide to share their enthusiasm in innovative new ways, connecting people through a great sense of sharing the Universe! It's a month of celebrating Astronomers Without Borders' motto - One People, One Sky!

Save the Dates: April 2011 is Global Astronomy Month - bit.ly/gam-2011

Cheers!

No doubt as we get closer to April clubs will be reminded of this important (annual?) milestone in worldwide Astronomy. Irish clubs will get the same opportunities and publicity as before but as yet there is no word on whether there will be any kind of funding.

cheers Seanie!

Not forgetting, it's also the 50th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin's flight on April 12th, 1961 and the 30th anniversary of the first shuttle flight (April 12th, 1981.)

We should expect to see a large number of events organised worldwide next year to commemorate the first manned space flight.

Yes good idea to flag GAM2011 now so we can have in our heads for April. IFAS clubs did great work in previous global events. I am always blown away by the positive response and actions of Irish amateur astronomers keen to share the night sky with the public.

Hi everyone

It’s time to have a bit of a think and make a bit of a plan about what your club are going to do for GAM 2011 this April.
I hope to do some public outreach events here in Bray and I suggest that you also keep your events local to your
villages and towns in this difficult recession. I am sure whatever you do community wise will be uplifting, joyous and fun for the people you engage at your events.

MAC of course will have the 'big one' - Cosmos 2011 on April 1st to 3rd as well as some observing sessions and the usual club lecture night(s). More details on those coming soon.
