Cosmonaut to visit Dublin on April 14th was created by johnflannery
hi all,

hope everyone is well.

The Russian Alliance non-profit organisation, with the support of the Russian Embassy Dublin, the Dublin Institute of Advanced Studies, and DCU have arranged for Cosmonaut Mikhail Korniyenko to visit Dublin in mid-April as part of the celebrations to mark the 50th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin's historic flight on April 12th, 1961.

Korniyenko will give a FREE public lecture in The Helix (at DCU), Dublin on Thursday April 14th. You can apply for tickets by sending an email to cosmonaut2011@gmail.com stating how many tickets you want AND the names of ALL the people you want the tickets for (names are required for insurance purposes and seating.)

Mikhail Korniyenko spent 6 months on board the International Space Station from April to September 2010 as part of the Expedition 23/24 crew. He also completed a spacewalk during this time. His biography and a NASA interview can be read at www.jsc.nasa.gov/Bios/htmlbios/kornienko.html and www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/station/exped...ienko_interview.html

Applications for tickets sent to the cosmonaut2011@gmail.com address WILL ONLY BE TAKEN up to April 5th. After this, you MUST use The Helix's own booking system.

Doors open on April 14th at 7pm and the programme commences at 7:30pm. Light refreshments and food will be served free beforehand in the Helix itself. More details though will be included on the e-mail returned to you to confirm your tickets are booked.

The IAS and SDAS will also hold a free public lecture on Tuesday, April 12th when Dr Brian Harvey will speak about the Russian Space Programme. Brian Harvey is an expert on the world's space programmes and author of a number of books about spaceflight for Springer Publishing ( www.springer.co.uk ) The IAS/SDAS talk will be at 8pm in Gonzaga College Ranelagh and admission is free.

Hope to see you at one or both talks!
