the next IAS/SDAS meeting is on Thursday, May 12th at 8pm in Gonzaga College, Ranelagh, Dublin. All are welcome and admission is free.
Dr. Eric Finch of Trinity College Dublin will give a talk titled "ETS Walton: Atom Splitter & Man of Peace". I heard this talk recently and it is absolutely superb.
Walton is Ireland's only Nobel Prize winner in the Sciences and was co-presented with the award for his role in splitting the atom. After his pioneering work in the Cavandish Laboratories in the UK, Walton returned to Ireland to take up a position in TCD and spent the remainder of his career there.
This is our last meeting before the Summer break and a fitting tribute to one of Ireland's greatest scientists.
