Mars Lectures for Science Week was created by dmcdona
Kevin Nolan - the Planetary Society Co-ordinator to Ireland is presenting three free talks.
There are several imminent Missions to Mars:
1. The simultaneous launch of the Russian “Phobos Grunt” with the Chinese “Yinghuo-1” Mars missions on November 8th. This mission also carries an intriguing experiment called LIFE designed by The Planetary Society (whom Kevin represents in Ireland). LIFE will carry microbes to Mars and back to Earth by 2014 where we will see if they survived the round trip.
2. The launch of the NASA Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) “Curiosity” on November 25th
To celebrate these, Kevin is presenting three free public talks for Science Week Ireland 2011 in Dublin (Mansion house, Nov. 14th), Galway (NUI Galway, Nov. 16th) and Cork (Blackrock Castle Observatory Outreach Centre, Nov 18th).
www.planetary.ie/msl outlines all of the missions; as well as a PDF document “Media_Kit” (downloadable at www.planetary.ie/msl/media_kit.html ) which provides full details on the talks, the missions, Mars exploration in general and links to official mission sites and images for download.
I saw Kevin a while back at the Burren Start Party - superb presentation and an accomplished speaker. If you get a chance a chance to go to any of these three presentations you're in for a treat.

Hi Pat - they are all 20:00 (8pm).
Note that whilst the presentations are free, it is first-come first-served.
The links give a bit more info on the content etc.
I'm hoping to get to the Mansion House event.
Cheers
Dave
