The next Midlands Astronomy Club (MAC) public lecture takes place in the Presbyterian Hall, High Street, Tullamore, as follows:
Date & Time: Tuesday January 10th @ 8pm.
Speaker/Topic: MAC Members
Title: Telescope Night for Beginners
Admission: €2.00, all are welcome.
This event is an annual one around this time of year and is especially aimed at those who have just received a telescope or binoculars for Christmas. All are welcome to attend (kids too!) with free copies of the January edition of our club newsletter Réalta and the latest SkyMaps edition will be available. You can bring your telescope and ask our experienced members how to use various aspects about it and also things like upgrades and how to maintain it. We will also demonstrate some free software and where to download it (for free!) on the night and have a free raffle for a spot prize.
Hope to see you there.
Clear Skies,
Seanie Morris.

We had a great night on Tuesday night last. Weather was miserable but we still managed to wrangle a few new members on the night! We had what we could all carry: 10 X 50 binoculars up to a 12inch Dob. Réalta was available free (thanks to John Lally) and January's SkyMaps too. Demonstrations were presented on Stellarium. It was nice to see some new faces, one or two of whom keep in touch on these boards.
At one point, I was fixing a finderscope alignment query on a Skylux telescope by using the shopfront lettering on the chippers across the street through the open door to the hall! The kids, two young brothers, who both have it since Christmas were amazed by how everything worked.
MAC's next meeting, Tuesday January 24th is our AGM. All are welcome to attend that night (see separate thread on the subject in this forum).
Clear Skies,
Seanie.
