Dear All,
MAC plans to host an observing session tonight at The Site in Clonminch from around 7pm. Those who want to come with telescopes may want to get there a little earlier to use the waning light to set up telescopes etc. Call me if you need directions (087 6825910).
Directions
Regardless if you are coming from the north or south of Tullamore, stick to the N52 bypass.
Approaching from the north: heading for Birr along the bypass, there is a left turn (the only one) c. 300 metres after the Portlaoise roundabout.
Approaching from the south: heading for Kilbeggan along the bypass, there is a right turn (the only one) c. 1.2km after the Golf Links roundabout (the roundabout c.250 metres after the main Charleville Roundabout).
Down the Lane: The site is down this lane, ending in a dead end at which there is the MAC Observing Site. Keep left on the lane as you approach the house on it and without pulling up in front of the house - it now becomes a dirt track. Then it elbows to the left after 100m, then left again after another 100m (at a split). Down here, you will pass through 2 old tall pillars and a newish gate on them while the lane gets even more overgrown. Keep going! 50m after this, the track then ends with a left turn into the (rudimentary) car park surrounded by conifers.
Bring warm clothing, an easy chair, a flask of a hot beverage (tea or soup) and your telescope or binoculars. It's free and you can also view through the telescopes there. Remember RED LIGHT ONLY and do not use high beams traveling down the lane.
Hope to see you there.
Clear Skies,
Seanie Morris.
