"Simple Solar Spectroscopy" - Dave Grennan , Raheny Observatory
Spectroscopy is the study of light. By breaking light up into it's component colours we can determine lots of useful information about the source. Our Sun is a complex beast seething with chemistry which becomes readily apparent when studied with a spectrograph. In this presentation Dave will outline various methods of spectroscopically analysing Sun light and show how with even with a very simple home-made spectroscope, you too can study the Sun in finer detail than you ever thought possible. This presentation will conclude with a practical demonstration if possible.
Dave Grennan is an amateur astronomer from Raheny in North Dublin. Dave carries out research astronomy with his 14" astrograph at his observatory in Raheny focusing on the areas of supernovae and near earth asteroids. Dave has had some notable successes including the discovery of three new supernovae and two main belt asteroids.
