Mercury Watch at the Sugarloaf was created by flt158
Good evening, all.
I would be delighted if some amateur astronomers could join me at the Sugarloaf Car Park on Saturday night (May 10th) to observe no less than 4 planets in the evening sky. The Moon is also on view. I suggest meeting at 8.30 to 9pm. Telescopes will be vital for observations, but binocular viewers are most welcome also.
The 4 planets visible will be, from west to east: Mercury, Jupiter, Mars and Saturn. The weather forecast seems reasonably good -I shall keep an eye on it over the next 2 days.
It is not too often we get an opportunity to have a look at Mercury. Cameras are welcome too.
Aubrey.

Hi Aubrey, count me in for Saturday.
What a terrific idea to snare four planets - especially with Saturn at opposition the same night. I caught Ceres and Vesta in the binoculars recently, with both objects in Virgo along with Mars.
See you on Saturday,
John

It will be great to have you all at the Sugarloaf. I am keeping an eye on
www.meteireann
and accuweather, and the weather seems promising from 8 to 11pm. What would delight me most of all if the wind would die down after sunset on Saturday.
Be warned: it will be bitterly cold. I shall be wearing 5 layers and a worm woolly hat. I don't mind my hands getting cold.
I would like to be setting up the scope at 8.30 -I like assembling it while the sky is bright.
Would anyone else from Wicklow, Meath, Wexford, or Carlow wish to join us?
Aubrey.
