Adding to Michael's photo in
his thread here
, I did a sketch today of the sun:
As can be seen, even through a Skylux 70mm refractor, there are lots of the same spots seen.

Nicely drawn Seanie. Compare your drawing with the daily image from Big Bear Solar Observatory.

The view is horizontally mirrored to yours, but it highlights just how good your drawing is.

Cheers Dave ,
I find sketching very helpful as you have to keep studying the object in question. Hence the point of the Observing Challenges. You can sometimes notice more detail than if it were just a quick glance.

Great sketching the Seanie.
Does all this recent sunspot activity mean we will see an aurora display in the coming days?

Personally, there is a good chance. The thing to look for is whether any of the larger groups are facing us practically head on, or will appear to do so.
And thanks!

i can remember back in the 60's and 70's they used to talk about how great weather always arrived after high sunspot activity. Does this hold true, or has it since been exposed as wishful thinking or urban legend?
