Amateur astronomers from St. Louis and Rockland Amateur Socities announced on Monday that they had observed the so-called 10th planet Xena through a telescope eyepiece, thus becoming the first people in the world to do so. All professional and amateur observations to date of 2003 UB313 have apparently been photographic, including the discoverers. The sighting took place some months ago on the 9th October 2005 but to achieve this remarkable observation, they had to use the 2.1 metre Otto Struve Telescope at McDonald Observatory, Fort Davis.
