The Mercury transit on November 8th will not be observable from Ireland or in fact europe and middle east aswell. It is only visible from the far east and the americas.

True, but with the internet I’m sure we’ll be well informed.

Airline tickets to Australia/New Zealand are VERY expensive and in contrast to California which are considerably less. A trip stateside also means a brief excursion for "shopping" (astrotoys).

The two best locations are the west coast of the US (California) and New Zealand with the latter being slightly preferred due to better positioning of the sun during the transit. The Mercury transit on November 8th will not be observable from Ireland or in fact europe and middle east aswell. It is only visible from the far east and the americas.

PS. The next such transit is in 10 years time which adds some urgency to this particular event.
