Hmmm... I wonder why PinPoint didn't correctly designate 35283...

If you think you have found a new object, don't forget to follow the naming convention given by the MPC ( cfa-www.harvard.edu/iau/info/Astrometry.html#name - para 23)

As far as the MPC goes, observation reports are automatically processed by their servers. If the routines show you have discovered a new object the email should be sent automatically with no input from the MPC staff (though the ornit calculators - humans - might have a role to play).

In the link above, rules are given regarding one and two nighters. If you only have a one-nighter, you may or may not get credit... It depends how it gets linked with any previous observations of the same object.

You should try and get some more observations if you can.

MPCOrb - if we're talking about the same thing - is just the daily updated database of all objects designated by the MPC. When I start an observation session, I make sure I download the latest version then plug it into Astrometrica and TheSky.

It might be worth resubmitting the 35283 observations with the correct designation filled in...

I'm away from the observatory for a few days. I'll follow up that suspect early next week, weather permitting. I'll look at a possible resubmission to MPC next week with proper designations.

Thanks for your help Dave.

BTW, I'll be at the Astronomy event of the Lindsay Cetennial Symposium in Armagh at the end of next week.
