Sun Earth Day 2007- Living in the Atmosphere of the Sun

Sun-Earth Day always happens on the equinox- March 20 or 21, if there isn’t a special event in March as it was last year on the 29th. This year the equinox occurs on March 20th. We will feature a web cast Living in the Atmosphere of the Sun to share information about some of the new missions and their interrelated stories as they study to Sun.

The month of February will also feature some special resources to provide more information about the Sun and the missions that study the Sun. On February 22nd at 1:00 EDT we will feature a special web cast-

Sun’s impact on the Solar System, Moon, Mars and Beyond

Eric Christian, NASA HQ heliosphere and Voyager Mission

Rich Vondrak, NASA Goddard (Solar Wind on Earth and Moon)

Jim Thieman, NASA Goddard (Jupiter)

Dave Hamilton, NASA Langley Atmospheric Scientist

Sheri Kluge, Univ. of AZ (Mars)

Parkland Middle School’s Space Weather Action Center

During the web cast a special email address will be available for questions and students will share how they use NASA data to Track a Solar Storm and provide Space Weather forecasts. sunearthday.nasa.gov/swac/

The packets are being mailed out now so look for your packet soon and we can provide packets and materials to support your efforts for Sun-Earth Day.

Let us hear from you about what you are doing so we can again include your events as part of Local Happenings. sunearthday.nasa.gov/2007/events/happening.php

Be sure to listen to the Podcasts to learn more about Sun-Earth Day. sunearthday.nasa.gov/2007/multimedia/podcasts.php

And let us know if you are interested in sharing what an amateur astronomer is through a podcast.
