ICE ON MARS!!!

Wow :shock: it seems that we finally got some actual eveidence that ice dug up from the pheonix lander has evaporated into the thin martian atmosphere.

If proven, this is major news in the quest for life !!

I saw that too, Keith...looks like.................... we are not alone in areas that experience ice............. could lead to other discoveries!!!

We've found water ice on mars before though. (eg www.esa.int/esaMI/Mars_Express/SEMGKA808BE_0.html ) what makes this special?

I'm with Albert here. It seems to me that too much science is spent on discovering something we all know to be true anyway and then making a big song and dance about it in the media when it is 'discovered'. I guess this is really about budgets and been seen to getting results. What better way to get a result than banking on a known dead cert.

We have known that there is ice on mars for more than a century.

You can SEE it through a 3 inch scope.

Talk about HIPE !

That's carbon dioxide ice, not water ice we can see from here.
I suppose think of this announcement as a confirmation and a budget justification.
