tried something like that before a few years ago on the old ifas mailing list but it fell flat on it's face. i think though at the time there was only about a third of the people that are registered on the boards now.

I think that's a good idea. I'd certainly be on for it.
I've checked my own sky a few times. My limiting magnitude falls between 5.8 on an average night to about 6.1/6.2 on a really clear one.
However, it'd be interested to hear how others rate their sky.

Hi,
This is a project that Terry Mosely has started, with the results going to ILPAC, DS4NI and the CfDS. Though he hasn't got around to sending the survey form out to folks yet. To combat the apathy Terry had included some prizes to get participation! I'll drop him a mail and see what his plans are.
