UK action on light pollution was created by Conn Buckley
Just came across this report in the news section of the 'CILT World' May edition (Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport)

While it is in the UK it is encouraging to see this kind of action and apart from the savings/carbon footprint aspect it is really encouraging (if only a by product of the main thrust of the trial) that 'and local communities will benefit from reduced light pollution of the night sky'
I will send this to my Green Party contact and hopefully plant a little seed.

Thanks for passing that on Conn.
I'd be interested to see the results of it.
Hopefully it will be a success.

I think this is the appropriate thread to tag this new item:
news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/8489780.stm
Aimed more at carbon-reduction - but there should be light pollution benefits also.

Thats interesting. If they took this a step further and reduced the lighting at night on the streets by dimming or turning some lights off we could see some improvement. It's good to see some progress on this.

It's about time this kind of legislation against all night commercial lighting was made, in myopinion. I think it's a disgrace that shops, especially the big guns, leave their full floor lighting on all night. Tied with that are the carparks, some of which are locked at a certain time anyway.

An interesting survey by the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) and the British Astronomical Association:

It's good that the matter is being covered by a the media.
