Hi, Finbarr.

I am very glad you gave it a crack anyway. Tell me when did you try? What date?

And while I am on it, could you tell me if you have split 52 Orionis, 32 Orionis or Zeta Cancri (A and B) in the recent past, Finbarr.

Perhaps your scope needs something like 250X to split it.

Aubrey.

It was around the 9th of June Aubrey, I was concentrating mainly on southern globulars but did slew to 15 Boo; a lovely orange hue but no separation. I did push it all the way up to 330x, although this may have asked too much of the seeing.

Ever since I got the scope two years ago, I've used it almost exclusively for planetary and deep sky observations with a consequent neglect of doubles, so can't answer your question re those tight pairings I'm afraid. But Izar is such a beauty I think I'm converted and hope to spend more time on them in the future.

Clear skies,
Finbarr.

Yes, Finbarr. Izar is truly one of my favourite double stars. If seeing is bad, I split it 167X. But if seeing is very good, I seem to split at a mere 112X. Most of the time though, I split it with 8 mm TMB which gives me 140X.

I should say also Izar A is orange and B is a noticeable blue at 167X.

Aubrey.
