Hi everyone.
I have just been observing Rupes Altai right on the terminator.
It should be stunning after dark.
It is positioned coming out of the large crater Piccolomini.
Clear skies,
Aubrey.

Well -how are you all?
I hugely enjoyed observing Rupes Altai on Tuesday night especially from 10 pm local time. It was a beautiful sight at 112X in my 158 mm William Optics apo.
I have since studied images on Google, and I reckon half of Rupes Altai was visible on the Moon's terminator. Its entire length is 480 kilometres long. Seeing the mountain range heading into the blackness of the Lunar surface was very dramatic indeed. Earthshine was visible too after 11 pm. The highest peaks are 1 kilometre high and this most certainly caused the Sun's light to shine on these peaks whilst the lunar floor lay in the darkness.
Piccolomini looked very good with its very large central peak.
So did anyone else see this wonderful event? Did anyone image it? Perhaps you could share it with us on this website. Thank you.
Good seeing,
Aubrey.

It is great to hear from you, Keith.
I have been observing our Moon for over 30 years.
I have never seen Rupes Altai on the terminator in all that time.
I wonder when we shall it look like this again.
Aubrey.
