Hadley Rille 1st time

Good evening, all.

As promised this is what I observed on the 7.4 day old Moon on Monday night 10th June.

At 167X and 225X I was looking round the area south of the 83 km crater Archimedes. I could see 2 Rimae Archimedes (150 km long), Rima Fresnel (80 km long), Rima Hyginus (220 km long) and Rima Ariadaeus (220 km long).
Then I suddenly saw a 6 km crater Hadley C; and what is that thin line sitting south and north of this very small crater?
Why it is: Rima Hadley!!
I have been trying to see Rima Hadley for about 30 years and have failed to see it time and time again.
The reason Rima Hadley why it is so difficult to see on either a 7 or 8 day old Moon is because of the huge jet black shadow of Montes Apenninus which stand 5000 kms high. And they cover Rima Hadley very regularly.
Even again last night, there was a black shadow over parts of Rima Hadley.
But I could see most of the southern part and a fair amount north of Hadley C. But I am taking it as an official observation -at long last!

This surely has made up for my disappointment of not observing Rupes Recta on Monday night.

I was talking to someone earlier when I said "I have seen 10 Total Solar Eclipses and have only just seen Rima Hadley for the very first time!"

The question is: how many more TSE's will I have to see before I see Rima Hadley again?

I am about to see my 11th in Argentina.

Montes Apennius at 5000 km high.  WOW! that's high.  In your excitement at this great achievement, your finger was trigger happy with the 0's.

It should read 5000 metres. 
That's it. I am not using any more abbreviated words from now on!!



 

I have only seen Rima Hadley once and that was with a 8" scope.  It is a tricky object to observe, everything has to be perfect.  It was the same with Rima Triesnecker, I had been trying to observe it for some time and failed each time.  It was when I was not looking for it that I spotted it.  It is the unexpected that provides that little extra thrill.
