After more than a decade away, I got the pencils out last night to sketch Cr 70. I sketched it into my notebook and then converted it in Photoshop.
Hope you enjoy.

Collinder 70 looks very well with your binoculars.
For those who don't know - Collinder 70 is the Belt of Orion.
For your own records, Paul, you might just check your date.
Clear skies from Aubrey.

I was delighted to see you submit a sketch again, and this one is superb...one would think you had never taken a break from astronomical sketching. I really like how you illustrated the magnitudes of each star... Lovely stuff!
Also, thanks for letting us know that C70 is Orion's belt Aubrey...I didn't know that.
Clear skies,
Darren.

I really enjoyed getting the pencils out again, Darren, it's a very relaxing, very zen way to spend time.

I completely agree with you Paul, especially for DSO. The Moon is a different story for me though.
See I've a bit of a love / hate relationship with it. On the one hand, the moving terminator causes me much stress when trying to illustrate the lunar landscape, but on the other hand, seeing a crater reveal itself over an hour is enthralling.
'Swings and roundabouts' as the saying goes.
And on that, it looks like tonight will be a good night to do a DSO sketch. I managed to sketch NGC2244 last Tuesday. which I'll uploaded later today, but there is another target in this portion of the sky that should look lovely from the Sugarloaf.
See you all later on!
Darren
