Jupiter Mars conjunction was created by Fermidox
This morning 0246 IST, 14th August; perfect skies. Jupiter mag -2.1, Mars +0.9, 0.4 degrees separation. Aldebaran 8° to the E and the Pleiades included in the wide field DSLR shot, 17° away. Untracked, 13 seconds, 46mm lens. There will not be a closer approach of these two before 2033.

Hi Finbarr. Very nice image. You have also captured Uranus, to the right of the Pleiades. Stellarium will confirm the exact position.

Hi Finbarr,

This is a great shot with so many nice objects in it.

I was driving back from Baltinglass during the early hours and could see the conjunction with the naked eye. Unfortunately, I had no camera with me, so it is great to have this as a reminder....thanks for sharing!

Thanks Darren. It was a lovely naked eye sight too, particularly in fact as the dawn drew on and the backdrop for the duo became azure blue. They were even slightly closer at that point.

A slightly belated heads up here, but there is a grazing lunar occultation of Saturn tomorrow morning (21st) around 5am.
