Unkown Solar Transiting object was created by oneillp
I was observing the sun yesterday(17.52 BST) from south Belfast with a Solarscope(a simple projection device). I noticed what first appeared to be a small sunspot below the large sunspot. However it was moving across the solar disc. It took about one minute to transit 3/4 of the disc. The movement was from left to right in the solarscope image. Philip Baxter's son apparently saw this as well from Lisburn. He was observing part of the solar disc in H-alpha with a Coronado. Did anyone else see this or can anyone explain what it was? I'm hoping that it is the 12th planet!

Possibly a geostationary satellite? Just a guess tho!

Probably not - the geostationary satellite ring is too far south of the Sun right now. In any case, I think it would want to be a pretty damn big geostationary satellite to be spotted like that.Possibly a geostationary satellite?

was trying to run "World View" on the ISS solar/lunar transit web site last night but ran into problems. That would have given a hint as to whether any satellite was transitting. Only other possibility might have been a weather balloon (too localised maybe?)
