While walking to the IAS meeting yesterday evening (20th Feb. 2006) along the north side of St Stephens Green, Dublin noticed a falling light towards the south east. Appears bright (larger and brighter than Venus), white but low down and going into the trees.
At the time (19.38UT) I did not think much of it, considering the strange objects Dubliners can put in the sky!

We in Kerry Astronomy Club had a great public observing session in south-west Kerry last night and witnessed a fireball at about 19:40.
It was slower than the usual meteor and about magnitude -6? about three times as bright as venus at its best. It began about the region of Gemini and travelled down to the East behind some cloud. It lit up the cloud for about half a second. No sound was heard.. Yellow to orange in colour..

We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time. . . .

So, people from Cavan, Dublin and Kerry saw this, it must have been one hell of a fireball!!
How high would something have to be for of those sites to see it.
