Heads up on tonights moon

Just a little heads up on tonighs Moon which will be nicely positioned between The Pleiades and Mars with the Hyades nearby also.

I had a good long look at the moon on Saturday night using the binoviewers and the 12" and it was just amazing. Everyone out there with binoviewers go out there and have a look at the moon, its phase at the moment is excllent for detail.
I got the "normal" view when I closed one eye, but when I used both, you can see through the seeing!, like a natural unsharp mask!. Its like some got a fistfull of plaster of paris and slapped it off a wall, very stunning!
Its the only time I get the real 3-d effect :shock:

as a matter of interest, what e/p's did you use with the binoviewer on the moon. Did you use them on your sct. If so did you need a barlow.

I just received mine and having problems viewing the moon with 17mm's and the corrector 1.6 barlow on the 12" dob.

Any ideas whats wrong....

Sounds like a focus issue Johnno. With the correct installed and the binoviewers in the scope, pick a distance house/other and rack the focus in and out. Does the image quality get any better at any stage?

Michael, I have tried almost everything.
Surely 140X is not too much on the moon.

Anyway I'll be out later (weather permitting) and give it another go.

Isn't there a specific binoviewer or adapters for a dob, I dont think you can put just any binoviewer on a dob, again like Michael said, there are serious focuser reach issues there.
I had to turn the focuser on my 12" sct a huge amount to get the binoviewer into focus, I didnt use a barlow but there is a 1.5x barlow built into the unit.
As for eyepieces, I use 26mm, 15mm and 12.6mm series 4000 s.plossel meades.
The moon was just fantastic again tonight, the sky is particularily dark, I think we'll be saying good bye to the clear skies come tomorrow
