Which night for the Messier Marathon? was created by Seanie_Morris
Considering the amount of us actually going to Turkey, there's probably, what, about 30 of us that will actually be looking forward to really doing the Marathon?

Is there a way that for those that do wish to do it that we can agree a night so that e.g. our counterparts, partners etc that don't want to go can plan ahead for that night, and the following morning? I know circumstances such as the weather may change at the last minute, but still...

Presuming we have clear nights there for the entire trip and given the eclipse is on wednesday morning, then I think either thursday or friday nights are ideal, wednesday night is probabily ok, but the eclipse is gonna make wedneaday a long day as it is.
I'm looking forward to the marathon almost as much as the eclipse itself, if both of these work out, it'll be a week that wont be forgotton for a very long time.

I intend doing observing there on other nights anyway if possible, given the slightly better southern horison. :)

Dave's idea sounds good, but I am prepared to fit in with any night suggested. I am there for two weeks and hope to do more viewing too.
weather, be kind.

I just checked with starrynight, and omega centuari will be above the horison, albeit only 5 degrees, but with a clear southern sea view it should be visible, sagittarius and scorpius is also much more easily visible, there is a wealth of deepsky stuff there beside the messier objects.

Well,
We all got the email from Terry regarding the flight home, which is approx 4am on saturday morning :x
This probabily means it would be difficult to do a messier marathon on thursday night, unless you feel like staying up 2 nights in a row.
I'm not someone who'll be able to sleep alot during the day.
So this could mean that monday, tuesday or wednesday nights will have to do.
