Occultation of Saturn 22 May 2007 was created by michael_murphy
Myself (Michael Murphy), John Murphy, Aubrey&Valerie Glazier, Paul Byrne and Ken Finlay went to the IAS observing site in Glencullen to observe the occultation of Saturn.
Despite cloud before, during and after the event the moon managed to be in a clear spot of sky for ingress and egress.
It was my first occultation and despite knowing what was going to happen I was still amazed at watching the rings, the ball of Saturn and then the rest of the rings disappearing.
Things got a little tense waiting for egress as we all forgotten to bring the timings and thought egress was at 9.02 rather than 9.07. It was well worth the wait as first the rings then the ball of Saturn followed by the other side of the rings popped out. I am still slightly amazed at how quickly it all happened.
I'm looking forward to the next one
Michael.

There is an occultation of Venus on 18th June. It's at 3PM so I don't know how doable it will be.
Not sure when the next one of Saturn is.

From down here is Portugal Saturn just skimmed along
the bottom of the Moon.
A nice sight all the same.
The relative sizes is indeed interesting.
No pics though,..
it's kinda hard to operate a camera with 2 litres of sangria in you!

Missed the opportunity to see this from a 'Canadian' perspective due to cloud. Did anyone manage to get a few snaps of this?
