Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better programs, and the universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the universe is winning.

Hi all
I took my 80mm refractor and mylar filter out into the front garden to do some solar observing, there is no wall or hedge around the garden. I was busy observing when I noticed that there were people standing beside me, looking up I saw four lads I knew, some of the local boys. They wanted to know what I was doing and I duly explained and offered them a look.
Now, these are not the sweetest lads you'll meet, they're a little rough around the edges, but the reactions I got pleased me no end and they were genuinely interested. There are sunspots visible and I did my best to explain what they were and how they come about.
They left some minutes later and it made me feel good to think that I showed them something that they most likely have never seen before, or may never see again, until the next time I'm out in the front garden.
I can understand the joy that comes out of sidewalk astronomy and when the next public displays come round, I'll be there.
When the darker nights return I'll bring the scope out into the garden and show the moon and other sights to anyone who's interested.

If they broke in they might feel sorry for us and leave something.
