Sighting in Waterford was created by jerome
First time on this sight but I wanted to tell someone what I saw.
At 21.23 on Thursday 7/10/04 I was picking my son up from football training when an extremely bright object with a tail crossed the sky in front of me. The object developed a large halo and then I lost sight of it.It was traveling from East to West and my location was map ref 223.113 (I think) on sheet 22. I picked up my son , he did not see the object but himself and his friends did hear something whistling overhead. He was at map ref. 227.104 same sheet.

Somewhat related did anyone see a `bright meteor` in Dublin on the 6th (Wednesday) 22:50 local time heading north west, I only saw it out the window through cloud (it was bright and caught my eye), I reckon it would have passed over Tallaght.
It was cloudy so I cant comment on a tail or halo, and I was indoors do I didnt hear any noise. It was brighter than an iridium flare (-10 at a guess) but moved faster than a flare, yet slower than a regular meteor.
Two westerly(sh) headding objects two nights in a row

Jerome, I was out in the backyard for 5 minutes at that time last night and i saw it too!!! I'm in Cavan, but originally from Waterford, it shot from east to west, leaving a huge grey trail visible for about 5 seconds!, it actually whizzed past my binocular field of view and i looked up straight away, no noise though. Wonder what it was????
