BBC Radio 4 have been serialising the book "Red Moon Rising" by Matthew Brzezinski all this week.

The true (and totally unknown) story of the real origins of Sputnik, which launched 50 years ago today.

The human story is the most unknown part of the unknown story (As Donal Rumsfeld might put it.).

The serial is an abridgement, but it is so good I have ordered the full book from Amazon:
