Hi,
I'll be visiting Australia soon and have managed to plan things to be somewhere dark during the new moon
So I'm trying to plan a few hours observing. I'll have 10x50's and (hopefully!) a tripod. What would be on your target list?
Cheers,
~Albert

Just sit back and enjoy the view
I was visiting the wife's family last year and brought the 10x50's.
Amazing views of the milky way and I was clearly able to see the 4 largest moons of Jupiter through the bino's.

I agree. Sit back for a couple of nights and just take it all in with your eyes.
Bring a good book which outlines the southern constellations to help you understand what you are seeing.

Hi Al,
Evening:
The Milky Way through Pup, Vel and Car (many clusters here). The False Cross. Canopus. The LMC and SMC.
Eta Carinae.
Sirius very high up.
Crux and if the sky is dark the Coalsack, the Jewel Box really needs a scope to be appreciated.
Alpha and Beta Cen.
Omega Cen (in binoculars looks as good as M13 in a scope).
Later in the night:
Scorpious including M6 & M7
Before Dawn:
Sagittarius including M8 and M22.
Try to get to a dark site, I have seen the southern Skies from Chile, Zimbabwe and Australia and they are a treasure,
John
