I observed the moon with the public on ISAN April 4 and 5 2009 with use of a Nexstar 5i. I returned home for solitary observation through my 10.1" Newtonian; 32mm Plossl and 9.7mm Super Plossl eyepieces with medium ~ good seeing conditions; light breeze at 51 degrees F, from 6 UT ~ 8 UT April 5 to produce this large 22" X 30" multiple pastel impression on black Stonehenge paper with various off-white, blue and grey dry pastel chalks. Several areas of the terminator and surface areas were rendered in detail with medium high magnification at 180X; finally adding the artists conception from the surface of the moon at bottom. -Mark

Hey Mark, glad to see you got the images working.

(BTW: if you edit your post you'll see square brackets around the text [ img size="xxx" ] before the URL to your image. If xxx is less than 800, then you can delete size="xxx", leaving just [ img ] and the bulletin board will draw it a bit bigger.)

Cheers,
-- Jeff.

Hi Mark.
Welcome to the IFAS boards.
Wow.
That is really a very inspiring piece of work.
Tell me, do you work outside in the field?
Some of the deatil is almost photographic,
I'm sure it's a great way to 'focus' your observing.
Very inspirational stuff!
Please keep posting here!

Thanks Barberskum

Yes, my original observations through the eyepiece are the beginning, then I add the final lunar-scape below. This is one of many yet only the second work in which I have added an imaginary lunar-landscape.

This particular work just won the monthly contest over the astrophotographers too at The Cloudy Nights Astronomy Forums. >

Fantastic image Mark, I love the way that you have managed to transfer a high end view into one from the surface. I admire your skill with sketching materials and can't wait to see more images on the site.

You've set a very high bar for the rest of us.
