Nice job, Frank and Dee!
I just happened to have sketched the same thing last night, although my field is off to the right slightly of Frank's, and mirror reversed. The two smaller craters on the left of my sketch are Gay-Lussac and Gay-Lussac A, rather than Reinhold and Reinhold B as on Frank's. (Or I think, anyway. Novice moon guy here.)
Dang, this moon sketching is difficult!
Cheers,
-- Jeff.

Fine job ther Jeff. Are you sure its the mirror opposite? To me they look the same.
Mike , it took about an hour and a half but the time flew.
It's amazing that you dont feel the time passing when you
Are comfortable and concentrating.
Mark, you are dead right.
Sketching something and especially something like
A well known area of the moon really does without a shadow
Of doubt A- force you to really REALLY look at the object
And B - help you to discover things that you may have not noticed before.
I can safely saythis is the case with Copernicus.
While drawing it I noticed a few things that I simply had not seen before.
Drawing something from life forces you to use areas of the brain
You simply just do not use by just looking at it.
When you try to make your hand represent something
Your eye has seen by drawing it you are forming a different
Kind of memory of the object so you can do it.
Arty farty I know but thats just it.
For me anyway. I find it too helps me to really
See things rather than to just look.
Jeff. I have to agree also. It is a very difficult thing to
Do and i really do have a new appreciation for the passtime.

Frank --
You're right -- not flipped, just rotated. (I rotate the diagonal down so I don't have to have my chair up as high.)
Here's my sketch rotated to match your orientation, and your sketch cropped to match my field size:
Cheers,
-- Jeff.

Ok,
this tok me some time to really see correctly,
sometimes you just can't see the obvious
and need a few hours away from it.
Now I see what craters you are talking about.
I didn't recognise them at first but then when you
did the comparison it became clearer.
We must remember the sketches are a day apart and so
the shadows will be a lot different.
Someone said here in the last few days that the Moon
is full of surprises,
I have to agree.
I used to resent the Moon on occasion especially when I wanted
to image
now if it's up and it's clear, it's
(well, kinda obviously so I suppose)
my first target.
Although lately with the unusual clear spell I feel I'm
becoming a 'Moonie'
I'm tempted to try a full Moon sketch tonight
but I just think the almost full phase is...
well.. bland for a full sketch...
I think I'll wait and try and catch a very slim crescent
if I can...although...you'd want your skates on to sketch it.
Speed sketching!

Actually Jeff,
I ment to ask you,
when you sketch with pencil,
for the ....(lets for the want of a better word call it)
the 'shaded' areas do you hold the point side on?
I do this sometimes and I really try not to just
'fill in' but 'stroke' the page to build up some
sort of texture or 'fall' or 'shadow'.
Sorry for asking a stupid question but
I'm curious as to other techniques.

Frank a full moon sketch while almost devoid of shadows does give the opportunity to bring out the best of the albedo features on the lunar surface. Pity its cloudy today
