Hi,

I've been observing the h-alpha Sun quite a lot over past week and so I though I would combine four days of prominence observations into one single composite image.

The image below shows the changing appearance of prominences along the North-West solar limb, 16, 19, 20 and 21 August 2009.

Equipment/Software used:

40mm Coronado PST.
SPC900NC Webcam.
HandyAVI video capture.
Registax5.
Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.

Kindest regards,

Dave

Dave - out of interest, does that sequence allow for the rotation of the Sun - or is it that slow its not necessary?

Do you get to name the sungrazers by the way?

Hi,

The images have been rotated to bring the North-West limb uppermost and so the actual rotation of the Sun would be in the direction towards the top-right corner of the photo. From bottom to the top, the prominences are disappearing behind the solar limb.

Moving onto my Sungrazing Comet discoveries, as I do not own the SOHO Space Telescope --- I wish I did :-) --- the comets I find are numbered i.e. SOHOXXX.

Here is a list of the 19 comets I have discovered while inspecting imagery downloaded from the SOHO's C2 and C3 cameras.

The short-hand descriptions include the following information about each discovery -

SOHO NUMBER, DATE VISIBLE, DESIGNATION, CAMERA, IAU CIRCULAR, MPEC, DISCOVERY DATE:

I have also discovered two X-Comets. NASA/LASCO believe these are most likely comets but the number of images in which they are visible is too few to confirm actual cometary movement.

X-Comet 2002/06/13 C2 2003/01/12

X-Comet 2003/05/19 C2 2003/06/28

I find I don't have the time to devote to comet hunting as I did. My interests have moved away from finding comets and more towards solar observing.

Kindest regards,

Dave
