Hi All
I managed to get out for a couple of hours on the 20th/21st for the first time in a month and got a couple of sketches done before the clouds rolled in after one o'clock.
Hope you enjoy them.
M11
I found this a taxing object to draw due to the sheer number of stars and the constant back and forth between eyepieces and paper. It became a strain on the eye and I firmly believe that binoviewers would be the best for drawing such an object for the eye relief they offer.
M27
I had fun doing this sketch viewing both with and without filter trying to get the better view. I think that the unfiltered view was better as the filter tended to blend the nebulas different layers more.
M57
One thing I discovered when it came to sketching nebulae was that I was never happy with what I was sketching and kept going back to add something else. Eventually I got to the poitn where I had to tell myself to stop.
The seeing wasn't ideal, but I am pleased with what I captured.

Nice job, Paul!
I use a binoviewer for planets, but never considered it for open clusters. I'll have to give it a go next time (as they can become a bit taxing).
Cheers,
-- Jeff.
BTW: I think the font used for the details on M27 has a level of class above the other two.

Very good sketches.
M27 is excellent.
In terms of font:
I would suggest making the font smaller and using a shade of grey rather than white.
IMHO, it overpowers the actual sketch a bit.
Ideally, the sketch should be what catches the eye and the font should be less distracting, but clear enough to read it the viewer so desires.
Just my 2 cent.

Wow Paul. I wish I had been able to put that scope to such splendid use. Those sketches are magnificent. Did you use the UHC or OIII filters for M27 or M57? Do you find the flocking and Dew/Lightshield is helping with the Streetlights?
BTW, did you find room in the shed for the scope? Assuming there isn't too much wiggling involved manouvering it in and out, you must be set up and ready to observe in a matter of a minute or two. The EP table part of the Scope Trolley is probably surplas to requirements in your back garden and more hassle than its worth but should be handy up at Ballyremon where you don't want your EP box sitting on the ground in Sheep S**t
But back to the wonderful sketches. Your going to have to give me lessons one of these days

Yeah Keith, I gave O-III, the broadband and ultrablock filters a try and found that views without the filters was good enough, I think the seeing wasn't good enough to really make them show their stuff to their best. I managed to find room in the shed at the bottom of the garden, the lawnmower and other bits were relocated. It's great because I can be observing in rapid time and I don't have to lug the monster far.
Thanks Deirdre, it will be a long time before I can come up to your standard and I can't wait for another outreach night.
Thanks all.
