Chinese Lanterns was created by lunartic_old
Hi everyone

I was out in the back garden last night in south county Dublin when I spotted a constellation of Chinese lanterns to the south, moving from the west passing in front of Jupiter. This was around midnight and I could count 16 of them. I had noted one earlier in the evening, it was close enough that I could see the flames flickering in the balloon. The 16 were much further away appearing as nothing more than lights.

I have noticed that there seems to be more of these about lately, does anyone know where they are coming from? I don't think there are any special Chinese occasions, maybe I'm wrong.

I personally think they are pretty to look at, but I can only imagine the reaction if someone was taking an image of the sky and they sailed through.;)

Not to mention the potential fire hazard.

Paul,

They are now used not just by the Chinese population but by Irish people too. They are commonly used at weddings, christenings etc. One of the guys at Astronomy Ireland told me that they now account for almost all the UFO sightings reported there.
