Mars sketches was created by jeyjey
I did another Mars sketch on the 29th which just happened to be of a central meridian almost exactly 180 degrees from the one I did earlier in the month.

Given that the two sketches were 180° apart and therefore represent the "whole" of Mars, I combined the two disks from the two sketches into a composite presentation.

(The disks are also rotated & flipped to the "standard" orientation. I sketch them flipped L/R because I use a diagonal in a Cassegrain scope.)

Thanks, Donal and Frank!

The sketches are HB pencil on white (160gsm) cartridge paper. I scan them into Photoshop and then:
  1. invert the background
  2. adjust the contrast on the planet's disk to match what I see (I usually sketch in somewhat higher contrast to keep my scanner from losing detail)
  3. add the yellowish colour that I see in the eyepiece (where's the red, anyway?)
In the Jan29 one I also added the bit of limb haze in Photoshop (and removed the light guideline I had sketched to demarcate where I saw it).

Cheers,
-- Jeff.

Very nice work Jeff!
An inspiration to us all to get out there and draw what the eye sees.

Michael.
