A great night's observing - A beginner's perspective was created by Gareth_OFlaherty
With my 15x70 Binoculars and my planisphere I finally found the Andromeda Galaxy in the sky last night, despite the very bright moon. This is the first time I have ever seen it and I was chuffed to be able to find it and see it (even if it "only" looked like a faint smudge
I also saw Jupiter and two of its moons (Again this was my first time to see them). I was so excited that I literally ran inside to tell my wife what I saw!! I have been stargazing for a while now, and up to now, have confined myself to the Moon and trying to identify constellations and their main stars. Last night was the first time I ever went out with two targets to find. It has really made me even keener to invest in a telescope, to see what difference it will make to what I saw last night.
I am still on a high after the hour I spent in my backgarden last night staring at the sky. Great times!

Nothing quite like the astro-rush Gareth! Once the moon is out of the way you'll get even better views of some of the deep sky stuff. The Orion nebula should probably be next on your list, it's a beauty in good binos. Is the IFAS Binocular Challenge still available? Some great targets in that, maybe someone here can help with that. And by the way, you would only have seen 3 out of 4 of Jupiter's moons last night as Io (I think) was occulted. I was having a quick look at Jupiter last night too!
