Iridium flares was created by galwayskywatchers
Was out on a lovely clear Sunday night in preparation for a mag -6 iridium flare that was due to appear to the East of the haed of Draco, very low on the horizon, what was odd and i am wondering has anyone seen this before. It stayed around max intensity for around 25 seconds, bit like an ordinary flare. Thought id catch it all on digital camera, but exposure maxed out.It eventually faded but very slowly, would this be due to its low altitude.

Hmm ... I've nevr seen one do that but then again I've never seen one very low so like you say it might be that all low ones do that.
One thing is for sure al lthe angles involved for a low one are very different for a high one so it is possible that it would be dramatically longer.
