Is there a meteor shower peaking around now?

Hi all,

I was out in the back garden enjoying the superb seeing in the sky for around 22 minutes till 22:48hrs this evening. In that time, I counted 7 meteors all eminating from what would appear to be a radiant in the Gemini area. They were consistent: slow burning, yellow white and a guess at magnitude would be between +4 and +1. Only for that my CF cards are full I would have set up the camera for some long duration shots and try to capture some.

I can't find anything online that indicates a minor shower at this time of year and radiant. I suggest if you haven't gone outside yet to do so and enjoy the view.

There are two less known..
Delta Leonides 15th Feb-10th Mar at 23kl per second.
February Leonides 1st Feb -21st Feb at 30kl per second.
Could be these they are slow moving meteors.

In East Cork, we haven,t seen the sky for weeks. Although tomorrow (well, tonight) is supposed to be clear. Here's hoping.

Thanks for chipping in Paul. The slow speed of those you mentioned would be consistent with what I saw but the radiant would be out by around 20 degrees at source. 2 of the meteors I saw were heading Orion-Taurs/Pleaides direction, so that would rule out a Leonid radiant.

Just wondered if any one had noticed anything then this info might help.

Didn't see any meteors.Mostly cloud. However, had the scope pretty well collimated and got my first good view of Mars tonight. Got it at about x225 and it was a lovely orange/red disk and spotted a dark area on the surface at NE in the Dob, so I suppose it was SW for the non Dobbers. I was really pleased.

I hope the weather improves, I'm running out of astro related DIY jobs!!

Good stuff Bart. What size scope have you got? You should note the next time (soon) that you see Mars if that dark area has changed at all.
