Total Solar Eclipse 2O12 Observed was created by JohnONeill
Hi,
Sara and myself observed the Total Solar Eclipse from the outback in Queensland, Australia. The coast where we were staying was too much of a gamble with the tropical weather.
The sky was virtually totally clear, just a slight amount of cirrus in the direction of the sun. The corona was really elegent. Some small prominences were visible to the naked-eye.
But the two minutes passed all too quickly!
Meet some of the Irish eclipse chasers. I know some had sucess, hope the others did had sucess.
Chatted with some other people and eclipse chasers. Most (but not all) inland sites saw the eclipse. On the coast seems to be about 50/50, with some getting lucky gaps in the low cloud.
Got a quite a few images. I have managed put one image (essentially unprocessed) on my website Variable Star Nights
When I get over the jet-lag I will do some more.
John

Well done John. Glad the weather worked out for you. I didn't make the trip and I am based in Sydney so I had no excuse. We were clouded out even in Sydney so I didn't even see the partial eclipse.

Hi,
Sara has written a 'Blog' about our Australian Eclipse Experiences. See home page of AAVSO
By the way, I took advantage of the dark clear night before the eclipse to do some wide angle imaging.
For a short of the LMC see my website Variable Star Nights
and the follow the link to 'Deep Sky'.
John, you have the luxury in that you can hang around Sydney on 22nd July 2028! The Bridge would make a amazing foreground.
