Did anyone else see.... was created by RandomPillars
Just having a glass of mulled wine out the back while looking up at the relatively clear sky.
As I was watching, I seen two bright flashes in Pegasus. The flashes were about 10 mins apart and originated in slightly different parts of the square. I'm guessing they were two different satellites but they seemed really bright. And they each only flashed once. I know normally satellites that are tumbling tend to pulse. I'm sure they weren't one object either as they were too close together within a ten min gap.
Anyway, just kind of waffling. But does anyone know of something else that would show like that? Meteors maybe?
Thanks for any input.
Sean
P.s. No, I haven't had too much wine (unfortunately). But I'm working on it.

Don't ring no bell! Could be sats or meteors. I was out last night looking in the same direction trying to count how many naked eye stars I could see in the square (only could see 3) seeing was good on and off - but high cloud would roll in and out every now and then.

Sean,
I think I have come across these before.
With my meteor camera, I regularly pick up planes passing overhead.
However, occassionally, I get short videos recorded by the camera which only pick up a single flash.
Sounds similar to what you saw.
Michael.

Just to follow-up on this issue:
Below is a link to am image from my meteor camera:
www.astroshot.com/Meteors/M20121216_064147_I87_P.jpg
To explain the image:
The meteor camera operates all night and is controlled by the software program on the PC.
When an object moves into the FOV of the camera, the PC will save and process the video.
If it is a meteor, it will be a very short event and the PC will save the video.
If the event is significantly longer (say, an airplane passing overhead), it will save a jpg of all the frames summed together and discard the video.
In the above image, one can see an airplane passing from 7 o'clock towards 1 o'clock on the LHS of the image.
One can also see another object moving at right angles to the plane.
This is either a plane or a satellite similar to what you described.
The argument in favour of a satellite is that it covers a much smaller angular distance in comparison to the plane.
The illumination is also quite different.
However, I can't rule out a plane as it may be flying at a mcch higher altitude to the brighter one.
Anyone here care to offer their suggestions?
