Christmas Day (night) observations was created by flt158
As far as my memory serves me, I cannot remember doing an observing session on the 25th December ever in my life. And I did enjoy it with Valerie, my wife, popping in and out of the house now and again. This is the list of things we saw.
1. Seeing Jupiter's Great Red Spot transiting at 19.45. Very faint gray at 167X.
2. Io's shadow appearing on Jupiter at precisely the 1st moment at 22.05. (112X)
3. At 23.00, fitting eastern limb of the Moon with Jupiter and 3 moons in one field of view at 40X. Both bodies were a mere 1.2 degrees apart, so they fitted in my 38mm 2" eyepiece.
4. And finally, I observed the Gibbous Moon at 140X and saw Mons Rumker for the first time in my life. It was quite close to the terminator. I personally consider this is a mountain 70 kilometres wide with quite a few domes on top of it. What does any else think? None of the references I have call it a mountain -even though it is called a "Mons".
So I think you could say, Santa Claus was very kind to me last night for the long clear spells. All in all, I observed from 8 to 11pm.

A nice session for you. Glad the rain didn't make an appearance. Stayed raining in the west unfortunately but looking forward to using my new toy soon.
